Rhode Island Watercraft Customer ID Process

This article explains how to obtain your RIO Watercraft Customer ID (CID) and use it to access the Rhode Island Online (RIO) system to renew your boat registration.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

• Your registration certificate
• A valid email address
• Your date of birth (DOB) and ZIP code

Get Your Rhode Island Outdoors Customer ID (CID)

1. Open the Rhode Island CID Request Form.
2. Enter the required information from your registration certificate  which is pictured below.

1. Provide your email address when prompted.
2. Submit the form to receive your Customer ID (CID).

Access the Rhode Island Outdoors System

1. Go to the Rhode Island Outdoors (RIO) Portal.
2. Select Search By Customer.
3. Enter the following:
   • Your Customer ID (CID)
   • Your date of birth (DOB)
   • Your ZIP code
4. Select Submit to log in.

Confirm Your Residency Status

After you log in:

1. Select whether you are a Resident or Non-Resident.
2. Continue to your account dashboard.

Renew Your Boat Registration

1. On your dashboard, locate Renew Registrations.
2. Review your list of boats (both current and expired).
3. For any boat that needs renewal:
   1. Locate the boat in the list.
   2. Select Actions.
   3. Select Renew.
   4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the renewal.
